History of Ottershaw Village Hall

Ottershaw Village Hall was built in 1930. It was then called Brook Hall in memory of the Reverend Arthur Brook.  It was funded by his widow Eliza Brook and their daughter Mary Lilian and donated to Ottershaw Parochial Church Council (PCC). The original building was destroyed by fire during the Second World War when it was leased to Chertsey Urban District Council for use by the National Fire Service. The present building was erected before the end of the Second World War, since when it has been extended and altered over the years. [See web page Brook Hall in World War II] It has always been well used by the local community.

In 2008, a new registered charity, named Ottershaw Village Hall was set up to take over the running of the Hall from the PCC. Its trustees are representatives of the village and local community and are required to promote the use of the Hall and to coordinate the day-to-day management of the Hall.  They were also required to organise and oversee its refurbishment. The Refurbishment Project pages elsewhere on this website give details of each phase of the redevelopment.  The use of the hall has increased substantially as a result of the refurbishment.
